Hawkins Law is a client-focused service team that combines efficient communications with innovative and practical legal solutions to help our clients achieve their goals. This philosophy is guided by our commitment to form long term relationships with our clients and make a meaningful contribution to their lives and their businesses.
Business Law
Business Organization
Starting a business can be confusing. From choosing the right type of business structure and completing applications to drafting operating agreements and answering questions about your duties as a business owner, we can assist each step of the way.
Business Operations
You want your business to be successful, and so do we. Through document drafting, contract review, formulating employee policies, and evaluating proposed personnel and business actions, we resolve current issues and help clients avoid future legal challenges. We serve as general counsel for our clients, providing trusted resources and a proactive approach to the challenges of today’s business climate. Whether in our office or yours, we can become a vital part of your team.
Municipal Law
We advise multiple municipal governments, public entities, and non-profit organizations. We craft resolutions, ordinances, bylaws, and other documents. We also provide counsel on public record act requests, open public meeting laws, land use, water rights, procurement, contracts, and other complex legal issues that face elected bodies.
Property Law
Real Estate
Real estate transactions can be complicated and confusing. Whether it’s developing real estate, buying/selling property without a broker, or drafting easements or leases (commercial, residential, or agriculture), we work hard to prevent or resolve potential issues.
Landlord-Tenant
We instruct and coach landlords through the increasingly complex landlord-tenant laws, provide timely advice when issues arise, and assist with evictions (when necessary). Legal obligations and rights differ depending on the property and situation; we help our clients understand these key distinctions.
Wills & Estates
Estate Planning
We focus on straightforward estate planning aimed at putting the simple estate in order and giving our clients peace of mind. A well-drafted will or trust can arrange long term support for others (e.g., minor dependents, those with special needs, etc.) and appropriately dispose of your real estate, personal belongings, and other property upon your death. Similarly, we can customize a durable power of attorney, healthcare directive (sometimes called a living will), and/or a medical power of attorney to help you plan for the uncertainties of life.
Probate
When necessary, probate is an important tool in resolving an estate. We can evaluate whether probate is necessary in your situation and help you understand your options. Whether acting as a consultant while you handle the estate on your own, or as your legal representative, we can help you make sense of the confusing probate process.
